Cloak

The Label

Launched in 2000, Cloak has become a favorite menswear brand among rakes and rock stars. Cloak is the creation of Russian-born designer Alexandre Plokhov, who magically merges elegant hand-tailoring with exaggerated sharp lines and military-style detailing. The result is a unique, dark twist on suiting that’s both modern and retro. Tastemakers in the industry are banking on Plokhov’s future—in fall 2004, he tied for second place in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards for young fashion upstarts, walking away with a $50,000 prize.

The Look

The cad, all dressed up with somewhere to go—just don’t ask where. Also, the Eames Chair General.

The Designer

Alexandre Plokhov, a Russian emigree with a love of bespoke tailoring, old uniforms, and dark colors.

Other Designer Affiliations
Plokhov’s first company, Alexandre Plokhov Atelier, opened in 1994 and specialized in handmade suits. Prior to that he was a pattern maker for Marc Jacobs, and also designed for Chado by Ralph Rucci.
